Product Overview

  1. Lemon Yellow, also known as Tart Yellow, Acid Yellow, or Hydrazine Yellow, is a water-soluble synthetic dye with the chemical name 1-(4-sulfonic acid phenyl)-4-(4-sulfonic acid phenyl azo)-5-pyrazolone-3-carboxylic acid trisodium salt. It is a bright, light yellow, monochrome pigment. Commonly used for coloring food, beverages, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, feed, tobacco, toys, and food packaging materials. It is also used for dyeing wool and silk and in the production of lake pigments.
  2. Lemon Yellow is an azo-type acid dye, appearing as an orange-yellow powder, soluble in water, where it presents a yellow color. Its aqueous solution remains yellow when exposed to sulfuric acid, nitric acid, hydrochloric acid, or sodium hydroxide. It is primarily used for coloring food, beverages, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics, as well as dyeing wool and silk and producing lake pigments. It is synthesized by diazotizing p-aminobenzenesulfonic acid and coupling it with 1-(4-sulfonic phenyl)-3-carboxy-5-pyrazolone in an alkaline solution, followed by purification.
  3. It is used for coloring coatings, inks, plastics, and educational supplies, with its primary use being as a colorant for food, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics.

Lemon Yellow Benefits and Uses

  1. As a pigment, it is used as a coloring agent. According to China's "Food Additive Use Hygiene Standard," Lemon Yellow can be used in fruit juice drinks, carbonated drinks, candies, jellies, etc., but its usage is strictly limited. Health enforcement officers note that if consumed in large amounts over time or all at once, Lemon Yellow, Sunset Yellow, and other colorants that exceed their permitted levels can cause allergic reactions, diarrhea, and when taken in excess, may accumulate in the body, potentially damaging the kidneys and liver. The common food additives and colorants, such as Tart Yellow, may occasionally cause hyperactivity.

Lemon Yellow Application Scenarios

  1. As a water-soluble synthetic dye, Lemon Yellow presents a bright, light yellow color and is a single-color product. When used appropriately, it can safely color food, beverages, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, feed, tobacco, toys, and food packaging materials. China permits the use of synthetic colorants such as Amaranth, Carmine, Lemon Yellow, Sunset Yellow, and Indigo. These are used in fruit-flavored water, fruit-flavored powder, fruit syrups, soft drinks, compound liquors, colored threads, canned goods, and cake decoration. Although these synthetic colorants make the surface of foods more attractive, they are prohibited in the following foods: meat and its products (including offal products), fish and its products, fruit and its products (including juice, preserved fruits, jams, fruit jellies, and brewed fruit wines), condiments, infant foods, biscuits, etc.
