Product Description
Gardenia Yellow is a natural, water-soluble edible colorant derived from the fruit of the Gardenia jasminoides Ellis plant through processes including crushing, extraction, filtration, refining, concentration, sterilization, and spray drying. Its primary coloring components are Crocin and Crocetin.
- Good Stability and Strong Coloring Power: Gardenia Yellow is resistant to reduction and microorganisms, stable under light and heat, and maintains its color within a pH range of 4-11. It is stable with metal ions and shows good coloring effects on starch and proteins.
- Safe: Listed as both a food and medicinal product by the Ministry of Health in 1998.
- Natural and Healthy: The main components of Gardenia Yellow are Crocin and Crocetin, rare water-soluble carotenoids that are easily absorbed by the human body.
Production Process
Methods for producing Gardenia Yellow include ethanol extraction, water extraction, and ethanol/ether extraction.
Ethanol Extraction Process:
Crush mature Gardenia fruits and add CaCO3. Extract with 20% ethanol solution at 75°C for 4 hours, changing the extraction liquid twice. Filter, pass the filtrate through porous adsorption resin, wash the resin with 25% ethanol solution, then with 50% ethanol solution, and collect the washings. Concentrate under reduced pressure or use vacuum film evaporation and spray drying to obtain the final product.
Subcritical Water Extraction:
This method produces Gardenia Yellow extract by grinding the Gardenia fruit to 20 mesh, placing it in an extraction tank, adding deionized water (material-to-liquid ratio 1:3), vacuuming, heating to 150°C, and extracting for 35 minutes. Repeat extraction three times. The extract is concentrated under reduced pressure to obtain the Gardenia Yellow extract, which can be further spray-dried to produce a powdered product.
